Kadapa: R Srinivasulu Reddy, son of seasoned politician and former minister the late R Rajagopal Reddy is making his foray into politics and is pitted against another newcomer YS Avinash Reddy of the YSRC for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. Srinivasulu promises development to his voters and asks them when the YSRC could not develop Pulivendula in 10 years, how could they develop Kadapa.

Excerpts from the interview.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is promising to bring back Rajanna Rajyam if he is voted to power in Seemandhra. Will people believe in him?

How can the people who could not develop Pulivendula develop entire Seemandhra. Jagan Mohan Reddy floated the YSRC only out of lust for power. In the last elections, people voted him to power with lakhs of majority but he did nothing for them. People of Pulivendula, the home town of the YSR family, are facing severe drinking water problems but Jagan did nothing to solve it. People know to what extent Jagan developed the region.  Did Jagan ever raise issues concerning Pulivendula in Parliament? How can such a person develop Seemandhra?

There seems to be a YSRC wave in the district. The party is also  publicising that it is going to win the elections. How do you react to it?

Jagan’s influence in the district is nil. He has been out behind bars for his ill-gotten money. People, who had been believing him are no more believing him. We have picked up momentum over the past few days.

You are a new entrant in politics and are contesting the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. What do you envisage for Kadapa if you are elected?

I will follow the path of my father the late Rajagopal Reddy and my brother R Ramesh Reddy. They served the people for many years. I will work for enhancing job opportunities for the youth. No company, except for Jagan’s Bharati Cements, was set up in the district in the past decade. Politicians are harassing entrepreneurs who come forward to set up industries here. I will hold a meeting with interested entrepreneurs and bring industries to the region.

The YSRc says that several of the schemes, initiated by the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy have been stalled by the subsequent Congress governments. Your comments?

The YSRC never thought or worked for the development of the district. They are blaming the Congress and the TDP for no reason. YSR never worked sincerely for completing irrigation and drinking water projects. He only got commissions and left the projects to the wind. Even a company like Brahmani Steels due to the corruption of the YSRC. I, with the help of the BJP, will try to revive the project and provide direct employment 10,000 and indirect employment to lakhs of youth.

The works of the Errakuntla-Nandyal and Kadapa-Bangalore railway lines are progressing at a snail’s pace. What will you do to ensure speedy completion of these works?

The work on the Errakuntla-Nandyal line is going on for the past two decades. I will work for the speedy completion of the works with the help of the BJP, which will form the government at the Centre.
