Aviation Academy at Puttaparthi Likely

SRIKAKULAM: Civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said that the Union government is seriously examining the possibility of bringing into utilisation nearly 400 airstrips and airports across India which were under operation during the World War II.

Speaking to reporters at SSR Puram in Etcherla mandal of the district Sunday, Raju said. “The Union  government will take all steps to develop the airports at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Rajahmundry through introduction of more flight services in Andhra Pradesh. We also want to operationalise the abandoned airport at Kadapa and efforts are on in this direction.”

He said that development of small airports in every district, will give a boost to both tourism and transport sectors in a big way.

He said Civil Aviation Ministry is examining the feasibility of setting up an aviation academy at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
