'Latrines for 15 L Families by 2019'

GUNTUR: Panchayat raj minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu has said that the government has decided to construct individual household latrines for 62 lakh families in the state within five years.

Speaking at the launch of individual household latrines (IHHL) scheme  at Sattenapalli market yard Sunday, he said that the government was planning to complete the project by 2019 by constructing latrines for 15 lakh families per year under the ‘Swatcha Bharat’ scheme.

“In Guntur district, only 2,80,156 of the total 7,26,972 families have this facility and with this scheme, the remaining households will be facilitated,” he said.

Ayyanna Patrudu said under the 13th Finance commission, the Union government had released `350 crore in the first phase for toilet construction, improvement of drainage system and drinking water facilities. In the second phase, `250 crore would be released for arranging dumping yards in the villages.
