VISAKHAPATNAM : Andhra University School of Distance Education (AUSDE) will be launching a two-year BEd (Bachelor of Education) course in the distance mode from the current academic year with an intake of 500 students. The AU is the first university in Andhra Pradesh to start the course.
Addressing newsmen, vice-chancellor GSN Raju said that considering the standards of AUSDE, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had given permission to the AUSDE to start the BEd course and sanctioned an intake of 500 students per annum. On the eligibility and entrance, Raju said that any graduate with minimum of two years of experience in teaching field and 50 per cent marks in bachelors degree/Masters degree or equivalent can apply for the admission test, which will be conducted by the AUDSE very soon. The VC said that though the course would be conducted in the distance mode, the students would have 45 days of classes in two spells in a year and there would be a total of six centres, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
Meanwhile, AUSED director L Sudhakar Babu said that students with 80 per cent attendance are eligible to take the examination which will be conducted as per the university’s rules and regulations. Sudhakar also said that after starting BA and BCom courses in 1972 with 265 students, the AUSDE is now 82,000 students strong across 52 courses. The curriculum of BEd course is being designed and the date for the entrance examination will be notified shortly.
