Dr. V Praveen Rao, Registrar, Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University, says there will be no change in the admission process for agriculture courses in this academic year. The number of seats will also remain same, but AP and Telangana states will conduct separate admissions for their share of seats in all undergraduate courses through their own Eamcet.
Since it is the first admission for the university after bifurcation, can we expect any changes in the admission process?

The admission process will remain the same. But the seats have been divided between two the states as per the Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act. Now both the states will conduct separate admissions for their share of seats in the same procedure. Both the states follow similar rules for admission of local and non-local seats. Students from AP can apply for 15 percent of non-local seats but they must have eligible score in TS Eamcet and vice versa. We are yet to issue notification for admission into PG courses. Soon it will be out.
There is a huge demand for the agriculture courses in Telangana, but the existing seats are unable to meet the demand. Does the university have any plan to increase the number of seats?
We need to have enough infrastructure to admit additional intake. Going by the existing facilities, it might take us some more time to increase seats in the main campus. But there is a proposal to increase the number of seats in our affiliated colleges from the next academic year. We have placed a proposal to begin admission for around 40 seats on our campus at Rudraram in Nizamabad district.
B.Sc Agriculture has always been the most popular course in the university. How is the response for new age courses like food processing and fashion technology?
Currently B.Sc Agriculture, Home Science and Horticulture are the major courses that we offer. But we have also introduced some of the leading new-age courses in agriculture like food processing, nutrition and fashion technology. These courses received a huge response from students. Every year, there is a huge competition for these courses.
What are the new initiatives by university to provide work experience for students?
Providing practical knowledge to our students is our priority. We have two major initiatives which give them real work experience during their course. One of them is Rural Agriculture Work Experience Programme, in which the students work in villages for six months. They work with farmers and gain practical knowledge in the field. In the second semester, students will work in other programme called Experience Learning Programme, where they begin a start-up and develop it. They get to keep the profits as well.
