GUNTUR: Three engineering students drowned in Krishna river at Pedakonduru village of Duggirala mandal in Guntur district on Monday.
According to Tenali DSP Ch Sowjanya, five youths, all aged 21 years, went for picnic on the banks of Krishna at Pedakonduru village and three of them ventured into the water, but got drowned with the current being swift there.
“All the five were school friends, pursuing engineering third year in different colleges. Four of them were from Mangalagiri and one was from Duggirala. Between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm, three of them had ventured into the water and got drowned. Those sitting on the bank shouted for help and but before it came, the three drowned. After we were alerted, we engaged swimmers to fish out the bodies,” the DSP said.
The victims were identified as A Abhilash, M Nagashiva and Sai Shekar. Their parents were informed about the accident. A case was registered.
