VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, in association with XPOASIA, proposes to conduct an exhibition on solar power and energy efficiency at the Vedika Function Hall from June 19 to 21.
Stating this at a news conference at the VMC office here on Monday, VMC Commissioner G Veerapandian said that the aim of the exhibition was to create awareness among people regarding the solar power and renewable energy.
He said that nearly 30 companies across India would exhibit the solar and energy efficiency led products for home and commercial purposes and a few stalls would explain the central and state government subsidies for the installation of the rooftop solar panels.
Regarding the pilot project taken up by the VMC to install rooftop solar panels at the five selected corporation buildings, he said that the tenders process had been completed and added that the Enviro Power Private Limited company would start the survey to identify the suitable places and connectivity in these buildings and would soon install the rooftop solar panels in Ajithsingh Nagar sewage treatment plant, Ramalingeswara Nagar, Dr KL Rao Head Water Works, VMC main office and council hall with 100 KW capacity each.
The commissioner said that the installation of LED lights had already started in 8,9,10,11 wards on a pilot basis and added that a total 30,000 lights would be installed in three months. He said that the project had been given to Energy Efficiency Services Private Limited (EESL).
NIGHT SHELTERS
Referring to the damage caused to some houses by falling boulders in the hilly area of Navodaya colony in Moghalrajpuram, Veerapandian said that the VMC had made arrangements to provide night shelter to the affected people at Ranigarithota, Gandhinagar and Chittinagar.
