VIJAYAWADA:  High school teachers are in a dilemma over implementation of the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system for Tenth Class students from this academic year. The system was introduced to help improve students’ performance by identifying their learning difficulties at regular intervals and reduce undue stress of competitiveness. This includes all relevant aspects of personality development of students to bring the best out of them.

“The CCE system is adopted to check effectiveness of learning process. But, it  became a mere evaluation with the word ‘continuous’ being implemented as just a series of tests or ‘mini-examinations’. ‘Comprehensive’ is reduced to grading life skills, work education, attitudes and values through co-curricular activities,” said AP Teachers Federation Krishna district president ST Manohar.

According to sources, there are nearly 710 high schools in Krishna district in the private and public sector, and 2,55,000 students are studying in them.

The system was implemented for Sixth and Seventh standards in 2013 and later it was extended to Eighth and Ninth standards in 2014. After a lot of confusion, the education minister has announced that the system would be implemented for Tenth Standard from 2015-16 academic year.

But the system, which was implemented in Telangana in 2014, has failed and recently, the Commissioner and Director of Secondary Education announced that the old system would be followed for the Tenth students. However, no school has received any order from the government in this regard.

“As per the system, 80 marks would be allotted for theory and 20 for practicals which include the project work, student behaviour and all non-academic aspects. However, it proved to be a failure in Telangana where it was implemented last year ,” he said.

Even as the schools reopened on June 15, the teachers are in a state of confusion in regard to the method of teaching to be adopted.
