VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu flagged off the ‘Bamboo Study Tour’ of farmers here Sunday.
A group of farmers from Jaggaiahpet and Mylavaram constituencies are going to Maharashtra for studying bamboo cultivation with the help of Tata Trust, which is entrusted with micro planning for 264 villages in Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency.
Naidu recalled that former chief minister NT Rama Rao had encouraged bamboo cultivation during his tenure. Bamboo ensures a vibrant cottage industry and as many Rs 1,000 products can be created from it. Hence, bamboo should be encouraged as an alternative crop or intercrop in the upland areas, he felt.
Earlier, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) explained the objective of the study tour and how they want to encourage bamboo cultivation in his constituency.
Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, K Ravindra, K Srinivas, K Atchennaidu, Ravela Kishore Babu, mayor K Sridhar, ZP chairperson G Anuradha, Machilipatnam MP K Narayana, MLAs, MLCs and officials were present.
