VISAKHAPATNAM:The historic lighthouse in the One Town area will be thrown open to public in the ensuing days. The Visakha Container Port Terminal (VCTPL) restored the dilapidated heritage site and has since been maintaining it. The VCTPL has restricted its access to public.

VPT chairman MT Krishna Babu said that they would soon allow public to the lighthouse, lifting the ban. A museum will also be set up there, exhibiting historical portraits of Visakhapatnam showing its evolution  from a small fishermen village to the city of destiny and also the city’s maritime history. The 59-foot high lighthouse was a transit line lighthouse, established in 1903, to guide ships to Vizag harbour. The lighthouse became defunct in 1962, after that the building was dilapidated. However, the VCTPL has restored it in June this year but its access to public was restricted.
