Woman Brands Son in Fit of Rage

VIJAYAWADA:  A seven-year-old boy was sheltered in an orphanage run by an NGO, Care and Share, after his mother branded him with a red hot iron spatula near Ganganamma temple at Ajit Singh Nagar here on Tuesday.

According to Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) officer G Prema Latha, the mother, N Prabha, 28, branded her son M Durga Rao, 7,  after neighbours beat her up for not disciplining him.

The mother, in a fit of rage, did not realise that she was causing serious injuries to her son and burned him at several places.

As the boy kept crying, the ICDS officer had been tipped off who rescued the child and took him to Child Welfare Committee.

The CWC asked the ICDS to keep the boy under the custody of the orphanage run by the NGO for 10 days.
