KURNOOL: District sessions judge P Venkata Jyothirmai Wednesday sentenced two auto drivers, accused in several rape and theft cases, to lifetime imprisonment and imposed `5.30 lakh fine each. One of the accused, Ravi (24), a rapist, who allegedly said, “My hobby is to rape girls and women,” several times while in custody, is to be locked up forever with his other rapist friend. The two shall stay in jail until their natural death, the judge said.
This kind of punishment was not awarded by anyone in a Kurnool court before.
Ravi alias Mattigadu (A1) and his friend Srinivasulu (A2), are both from Budavarpet. They picked up an engineering student in their auto, and after allegedly raping her, they hit her with stones and fled after the victim lost consciousness.Passers-by shifted her to hospital. Police registered a case on July 17, 2013, and arrested the duo on Jan 14, 2015. They were produced in court Wednesday for the final verdict. SP A Ravi Krishna, who took the case seriously, also attended.
