VISAKHAPATNAM: A couple from Visakhapatnam allegedly committed suicide by consuming soft drink laced with poison at a hotel room in Colombo of Sri Lanka Wednesday night. The deceased have been identified as Prithviram (30), native of Srinagar area of Gajuwaka of the city, and N Mahalakshmi (27) of Chennai. The incident came to light when special branch police of the city received the information from Sri Lankan police Friday morning.

A few days ago, the couple had left for Sri Lanka on tourist visa. Police said that the couple had visited the major tourist destinations in Colombo.

On Wednesday night, they returned to their hotel room and locked themselves in. As the duo didn’t respond to calls on Thursday, the hotel staff alerted the police.
