VMC Capital Budget Delayed Again

VIJAYAWADA:Though it was expected that the capital budget of around Rs 535 crore was to be presented at the standing committee meeting of VMC, held here Saturday under the chairmanship of Mayor K Sridhar, for some technical reasons, it was postponed for a later date.

At the VMC general body meeting last month, capital budget was not presented owing to election code in view of the MLC elections, but only a revenue budget of Rs 462 crore was presented. According to officials, the capital budget was not yet prepared though it was said that it would be presented during the standing committee meeting.

The standing committee had approved laying of roads and stormwater drains and provide other facilities at the CM’s camp office in the city. It had also approved setting up of a solar panel. Most of the 27 issues in the agenda were approved.

However, the Mayor was not happy with officials keeping him and the corporators in the dark about some issues like lease of certain properties. In regard to lease of two kalyana mandapams of VMC, it was decided to go for open auction. The Mayor suggested to officials to rope in apprentice ITI and polytechnic students for electrical works as it would ensure work at less cost and also provide good experience to the apprentices.
