MACHILIPATNAM:  In a shocking incident, a businessman was robbed at gunpoint by an unidentified miscreant at Hanumanthapalem village near Nandigama Monday morning.

According to the police, the victim Suresh Kumar was on his way to Hyderabad from Vijayawada in his car, when one unidentified person asked for lift near Gollapudi, stating he wants a drop till Kodad. When the car reached Hanumanthapalem, that man pointed a revolver and robbed Suresh of 3 gold rings and chain.

The incident sparked of the rumours that SIMI activists might be behind the robbery. However, Nandigama DSP TR Murali rubbished the rumours and said all the checkposts in the district and neighbouring districts have been put on high alert.
