National Meet on Gastro Endoscopy

VISAKHAPATNAM: The 16th national conference of the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI) will be held at Hotel Novotel Varun Beach, Visakhapatnam, from April 10 to 12. The conference, “ENDOCON 2015”, is being hosted by the department of Gastroenterology, Andhra Medical College. As many as 13 international experts from the USA, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, Italy and the Netherlands will participate. The meet aims to create awareness among practitioners about the new procedures in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, providing an opportunity to interact with pioneers in the field, said Dr P Murali Krishna, organising secretary of the conference and professor and HoD, department of Gastroenterology at King George Hospital, at a press meet here Monday. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the conference.

Some of the latest advances in the field of endoscopy will be demonstrated by experts while screening 40 patients, free of cost. The meet will see introduction of modern techniques such as “Lasero”, (which uses laser to differentiate cancerous cells from non-cancerous ones), and the simultaneous live transmission of real-time images using “Capsule”, for the first time in India. Many of the tenchniques will be new for Vizag also.

The state-of-the-art procedures and equipment, especially Capsule, are being funded by the government of Andhra Pradesh and are available only at the KGH.
