MACHILIPATNAM: Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao directed the officials concerned to take steps for the prevention of water scarcity in the summer season.

Speaking at a review meeting held at ZP hall here on Thursday, he said that about 184.70 tmcft of water has been released to Krishna delta for irrigation purposes and also released 4 tmcft of water to avoid drinking water problems. “In the district, there are 910 tanks and out of which 249 are minor irrigation tanks and 675 are under Panchayat Raj. In a year, the Krishna delta will get water from Godavari through Prakasam barrage and Polavaram project,” minister said.

Devineni Umamaheswara Rao asked the officials concerned to conduct a survey regarding the tanks in the district and to make repairs for the damaged ones under Neeru-Chettu programme and funds will be released by the government after receiving the survey report.
