VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, 3 persons, including 2 women, drowned in the Matsyagedda river when their country boat sank near Pedapeta under Pedabayalu police station in Visakhapatnam agency area Friday. However, the incident came to light only Saturday after the police fished out the bodies from the river based on a complaint lodged by the family members Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as K Gundanna, K Urmila and P Kondamma of Pedabayalu mandal who were going by the boat from Pedapeta to Tamarada.

According to Paderu inspector N Sai, the couple, K Gundanna (50) and Urmila (40), went to Munchingput to attend a wedding at their relatives home recently and were returning home Friday along with a relative Kondamma. They found a country boat on the river bank but did not notice the hole in it. The boat sank after water seeped into it midstream. After getting the information from the locals, the police rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of the couple and were searching for the third person. The bodies were sent for postmortem and a case was registered.
