VIJAYAWADA:  Municipal Corporation commissioner G Veerapandian said that there are about 4,000 sanitation workers in the corporation working daily in unclean environs and these need to be educated on ways to protect their health.

Speaking at a cancer awareness programme conducted by Grace Cancer Foundation and the municipal corporation at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Sunday, he said that there is a need to create an awareness among the sanitation workers, as most of them are addicted to tobacco, pan and liquor, which will have great impact on their health.

In the awareness programme, the corporation with the help of the foundation has organised a free medical camp for sanitation workers with 12 specialists from Hyderabad for the 1,200 workers of Circle -3.

“The medical camp will be extended to all the 4,000 sanitation workers of the corporation,” said Mayor Koneru Sridhar. MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao, deputy mayor Gogula Ramana Rao and corporation staff were present.
