61 Held Had Ties with Slain Woodcutters

NELLORE: The district police, who had arrested 61 woodcutters belonging to Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Salem districts of Tamil Nadu, concluded that all the  arrested had contacts with the deceased who were gunned down in a encounter in the Seshachalam forest.

According to sources, the police were able to collect some key information during the interrogation that the arrested were working for one notorious smuggling gang belonging to Tamil Nadu as the woodcutters could easily gain entry into the Velugonda forest by different modes of transportation. Meanwhile the district police decided to continue combing operations in the dense forest areas. It may be recalled that 300 other woodcutters  had been arrested and slapping of the Public Dacoity Act on them recommended during the period of previous SP Senthil Kumar.
