VDBA to Host VBL-Vizag Badminton League

VISAKHAPATNAM: On the lines of Indian Badminton League (IBL), the Visakhapatnam District Badminton Association (VDBA) is hosting a local badminton league - VBL-Vizag Badminton League - in the city on April 19, 24, 25 and 26. About five teams comprising 14 international players and many national players will take part in the league.

VDBA.PNGWhile each team has seven players, the tournament will be held in ‘A’ category singles, ‘B’ category singles, ‘A’ category doubles, ‘B’ category doubles and mixed doubles. The teams have been christened Gajuwaka Gladiators, Vizag Smashers, Doctors Dragons, Steel City Kings and Waltair Warriors. The prize money for the league is `1.7 lakh. Similar to IPL and other major leagues, the players or the teams will have a dress code with logo of their respective sponsor. The best teams will play in the finals at Swarna Bharathi Stadium on April 26 from 6 pm.

According to the organisers, the VBL will be a platform where talent would be identified and a solid framework would be created for the uplift of badminton game in the City of Destiny. Five badminton teams have eagerly come forward to own each franchise and One Stop 4U Private Limited has agreed to sponsor the event. Hence, the event will be called ‘One Stop 4U Vizag Badminton League’.
