Man Slits Daughter's Throat

GUNTUR: A forty six-year-old man killed his physically challenged eight-year-old daughter in a fit of rage and later attempted to kill self at Lingamguntla in Chilakaluripet mandal of Guntur district Saturday.

Chilakaluripet SI S Jagadish, said the incident took place when K Tirupataiah, a tailor at Lingamguntla, came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with his wife K Anantha Lakshmi and shouted at his children K Pawan (12), a student of class four and K Maheswari (8). In a fit of rage, when his wife left the home, Tirupataiah took a cleaver and tried to hit Pawan. When the boy ran away, Tirupataiah caught his daughter Maheswari, who was unable to move quickly, and slit her neck. The hapless child died on the spot. When Pawan saw his father trying to cut his own neck, he shouted for help. Hearing the boy’s cries the neighbours immediately rushed and prevented Tirupataiah from killing himself.

He was later taken to government hospital for treatment. Police registered a case.
