Woman, Paramour Strangle Husband

Wife of victim plotted with lover to kill him for asking to end affair

VISAKHAPATNAM:  In a horrific case of cold-blooded, pre-planned murder, a homemaker along with her paramour, murdered the woman’s husband by strangling him at their residence at Korlam village of Sompeta mandal on April 12. After the murder, the woman’s boyfriend, with the help of his two other friends, buried the body near Loddaputti village of Kanchali mandal of the district. The incident came to light when the locals perceived a bad smell and informed the police, even as the latter were searching for the victim after a missing case was filed by his mother. The deceased was identified as K Syamala Rao, a native of Korlam village. He used to work in a timber depot at Visakhapatnam.

According to the police, K Syamala Rao and Janakamma were married a long time and have three children. They even performed their daughter’s marriage last year.

Syamala Rao worked at a timber depot at Visakhapatnam, and used to go to his house once in a week or 10 days. The couple reportedly had conflicts from the beginning.

With her husband away, Janakamma began to work as a daily labourer in the village and found work under a mason, Lakshman Behera, who is a native and resident of Gondisasanam village of Kanchali mandal. Janakamma allegedly had an illegal relationship with Lakshman Behera.

Syamala Rao, who came to know about the affair, reportedly argued with his wife about it and subsequently reported the issue to the village heads who warned Jankamma to break off her affair.

However, Janakamma and Lakshman decided to get rid of her husband. On April 12, when Symala Rao returned home from Visakhapatnam, she alerted Lakshman, who reportedly came to her place with two other friends. The trio, along with Janakamma, allegedly strangled Syamala Rao to death in the night.

Laksman and his friends took the body to Loddaputti village and buried him in a pit near a pond. The whole sordid incident unravelled after Syamala Rao’s mother, concerned about her son, lodged a missing complaint with the Baruva Police station on April 14. At the same time, locals reported a foul smell. Police, who rushed to the spot, recovered the body and identified it as that of Syamala Rao.

The details of the murder came to light during the interrogation after police arrested Janakamma and Lakshman Behera. A murder case has been registered.
