VISAKHAPATNAM:  The city police arrested an engineering student on the charges of stealing laptops from other students at Visakhapatnam here Monday. The arrested was identified as BN Sri Ram Kumar (21), a native of Tuni in East Godavari district. He is currently residing at Madurawada, and is pursuing B.Tech final year at a private engineering college at Kommadi. According to ADCP (Crimes) S Varada Raju, Sri Ram Kumar was habituated to a luxurious life and was finding it was difficult to fund it. To overcome the situation, he took advantage of being a student and began to steal into the hostels of Andhra University Engineering College at Maddilapalem and make off with laptops.

“A total of five different laptops have been stolen by Ram Kumar since October. He sold the laptops second hand to finance his vices,” the ADCP said. After receiving several complaints from AU hostelites, the police registered a case and nabbed the student Monday morning.

The police rued that despite being a merit student in college, Ram Kumar got into the wrong way due to bad influence. A case of theft has been registered and the accused would be sent to remand, the ADCP added.
