VIJAYAWADA:Huge boulders and loose earth rolled down from Indrakeeladri hills due to heavy rain in the early hours of Friday and blocked the national highway no:9 near Head WaterWorks near Vidyadharapuram here.
Sri Durga Malleswara Swami Varla Devasthanam Executive Officer Ch Narsinga Rao said that rain had dislodged boulders which came hurtling down and crashed into the high way. The temple had the debris cleared in hours.
To prevent recurrence of such incidents, measures will be taken after consulting higher authorities. One proposal was to double-barricade the foot of the hill for a length of about 66 ft towards the Highway, as the soil mostly was loose.
