City Inner Ring Road to be Completed on Top Priority

Durga flyover works can be grounded only if traffic on Hyd-V’wada highway is routed thru IRR

VIJAYAWADA: District administration is now gearing up to complete the Inner Ring Road on top priority, starting with the pending flyover at Ramavarappadu.

Unless Inner Ring Road is completed, the traffic on Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway cannot be diverted and works pertaining to Durga flyover cannot be taken up.

The works pertaining to the Durga flyover project are expected to commence in 45 days and the government had already sanctioned the needed funds of `464 crore for the project. Further, the flyover needs to be completed before the commencement of Krishna Pushkarams next August.

Given the urgency of the project, district collector Babu A held an emergency meeting with various officials, contractors and company representatives involved with the projects and took stock of the situation. He tried to impress upon them the importance of completing inner ring road at the earliest.

Reviewing the progress of works pertaining to inner ring road here Thursday, the collector said 60 girders pertaining to the inner ring road have to be completed at the shortest possible time. Promising to provide the needed building material beforehand, he asked the officials concerned to prepare a list of the companies that are willing to take up those works in a given time without complaints or delay. According to officials some 14 companies have shown interest.

The collector reiterated that there will not be any compromise on the quality of works and if they were found to be of inferior nature, stern action would be initiated. He said the companies effectively completing the works will be given priority in various works to be take up in VMC, CRDA purview. He promised complete cooperation from the district administration with regard to clearances; police security too would be provided for the works. CRDA chief engineer Pundarikakshudu, VMC commissioner G Veerapandian and sub-collector S Nagalakshmi were present.
