ANANTAPUR:  In an appalling case of severe, shocking brutality, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly beaten by bamboo sticks and later set on fire by her husband and in-laws over dowry demand here Monday.

According to police, the deceased, K Nagaveni alias Rajakka, was married to K Mallanna eight years back. After some time, Mallanna began forcing her to give five acres of the land which was promised to him by the victim’s parents at the time of marriage, said SI Rasool.

On Monday, the couple again fought over the same issue, following which the victim was allegedly beaten with bamboo sticks.

“Along with Mallanna, his parents also tortured her. The victim succumbed to injuries due to wounds on sensitive areas,” he said. Later, the trio poured kerosene on her body and burnt it, he added.
