Woman Duped of Rs 1.5L by Beggar

VISAKHAPATNAM:A fashion designer’s kindness to offer alms to a beggar cost her Rs 1.5 lakh near a Xerox shop at the flyover junction at Dwarakanagar here Friday afternoon. The woman fell victim to two members of an attention diversion gang, one of them posing as the beggar, who made away with the cash after diverting her attention.

The victim, Radha, a local fashion designer and resident of Maddilapalem, was returning home from the RTC Complex junction in her car. When she boarded the car, a beggar came seeking alms. Radha kept the bag in the rear seat after taking some money from it.

Even as she turned to the beggar to offer alms, another person opened the rear door of the vehicle and grabbed the bag with the money. He along with the beggar fled from the spot.

Shocked, Radha approached the police and filed a complaint over the theft as the bag contained Rs 1.5 lakh cash. Fourth Town sub-inspector (Crime) Lakshman Rao said that they had deployed teams to nab the culprits at the earliest. A case has been registered and investigation is on. Police suspect that some miscreants might be stalking the victim and planned the theft.
