Congress Holds Naidu Responsible

HYDERABAD: Blaming the TDP government’s inefficiency and poor arrangements for the stampede, Opposition parties in the State on Tuesday demanded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu take moral responsibility and tender his resignation.

Speaking to reporters here, APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi alleged that the incident took place due to the failure of the government, especially Naidu, in making proper arrangements for the safety of the devotees.

They demanded an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh each to the kin of the victims. “The incident happened mainly because of Naidu’s mistake. If he had offered prayers at the VIP ghat instead of at the Pushkaram ghat meant for the common man, this tragedy would not have taken place,” Chiranjeevi opined.  Since Naidu had time and again claimed that arrangements were being monitored by him, he should take moral responsibility for the stampede and resign, he demanded.
