RTA Warns Operators on Overspeeding

VIJAYAWADA: With Godavari Maha Pushkaram stampede delivering a debilitating blow to the confidence of the officials that nothing can go wrong, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to take stringent measures to prevent any tragedy on roads by ensuring that the vehicles carrying pilgrims follow rules.

With many buses, maxi cabs and college buses transporting pilgrims to Rajahmundry, the RTC authorities seem to have been worried over the operators overloading their vehicles without following the rules.

Deputy transport commissioner S Venkateswara Rao held out a warning to the operators that their vehicles would be seized if they stuff people in their buses. “Instructions have been issued to the transport officials across the state to prevent overloading of vehicles to Rajahmundry.

He appealed to the operators not to overload their vehicles and any violation would invite action in the form of cancellation of permits given to them. The operators were also warned against collecting inflated fares from the pilgrims. “If any such instance comes to our notice, we will take stern action against such people,” he said.
