International Best Speaker Award for Vizagite

VISAKHAPATNAM: Director of Visakha Speech and Hearing Centre, Ramnagar, Lakshmi Godavarthi received the International Best Speaker award at a prestigious conference, Brend-Spiessl-Symposium 2015, held at Switzerland recently.

Lakshmi, who holds a masters in audiology and speech language pathology, established the Visakha Speech and Hearing Centre in 2007 and has successfully treated 4,800 patients suffering with hearing impairment. She has also provided speech therapy and special education for 15,000 children suffering from autism, mental illnesses, misarticulation, learning disability, stuttering, aphasia and dysphasia. The centre also provides free speech therapy facilities for cleft lip and palate children in collaboration with German cleft organisation.

On her achievement, addressing a press conference here Thursday, Lakshmi said that her aim is to train these children to secure an admission into a normal school and grow up to be independent and self sufficient.

“Since one year we are providing long time speech therapy to those children whose parents cannot understand how to deal with their child’s problems. The children are given training to do their daily activities. Hearing impaired children and adults are given auditory training by teaching them how to handle the hearing aids and how different sounds can be heard through the hearing aid,” Lakshmi said.
