Cracker Unit Fire: 3 Succumb to Injuries

Three persons, who suffered severe injuries in the explosion at a crackers manufacturing unit in the district , succumbed to injuries.

RAJAHMUNDRY:Three persons, who suffered severe injuries in the explosion at a crackers manufacturing unit in the district on Wednesday, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Kakinada Government Hospital Thursday.

The victims had received over 70 per cent burns and fought for their lives for the past 24 hours. The condition of two other injured remains critical.

D Koteswara Rao is running an illegal cracker manufacturing unit at Palivela village in Kothapeta mandal of the district for the past several years. An explosion occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the workers were mixing the chemicals for making the crackers.

Five workers were injured in the incident and they were admitted to the government hospital in Kakinada and King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for better treatment.

R Suresh (35), V Sriramulu (52) and S Nooka Raju (40), who were undergoing treatment at Kakinada Government Hospital, succumbed to injuries. The condition of M Swamy and PV Satyanarayana, who were admitted to KGH in Visakhapatnam, is said to be critical.

The police informed the media that the owner of the unit Koteswara Rao is still at large and a special team has been deployed to nab him.
