Himabindu Case Probe Shoddy: Cong

VIJAYAWADA: The City Congress Committee has expressed its anguish over acquittal of the accused in the rape and murder case of M Himabindu in March last year.

A delegation led by City Congress leaders met police commissioner incharge G Suryaprakasa Rao and sought action against the officers who had handled the case. They alleged that the investigating officers had not dealt with the case properly which resulted in the acquittal of the accused.

The delegation wondered why the police, who even at the drop of a hat would blow their trumpets by holding media conferences, were all sitting quiet now.

The Congress leaders demanded that irrigation minister Devineni Umamhaeswara Rao, who hails from Krishna district, should ensure justice in the case.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya general secretary P Durga Bhavani said that acquittal of the accused in Himabindu case was indicative of the fact that the government had failed in curbing atrocities perpetrated on women.
