VISAKHAPATNAM:Pochampally IKAT Art Mela 2015, a week-long exhibition of the eco-friendly handloom products, was inaugurated at Lions club of Visakhapatnam in Ramnagar here Monday. Miss Vizag Shobana Shona inaugurated the Mela by lighting the traditional lamp. The Expo will be on till March 8.

The exhibition has some exclusive handloom products like handmade bed and home linen, dress materials, silk and cotton sarees in exquisite designs and contemporary colours by famous designers. Skillfully created by world famous weavers of Pochampally, there is a range of home textiles and apparel fabrics besides stoles, scarves and sarees in silk and cotton, duppatas, table mats, covers, cotton shirts and kurtis, hand bags and engineered blends.

Miss Vizag Shobana Shona who inaugurated the expo, felt that the event is a delight for fashion connoisseurs, particularly those who love designer fabrics, silk and cotton sarees.

“Handlooms are part of traditional element of Indian culture and rich artistry. By promoting handlooms, we support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations. Each design is a result of individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and cultures,” said Lava Kumar Bharata, director of Pochampally Handloom Park.
