Speed Up Pushkaram Works, Officials Told

KAKINADA/ELURU:Even as Godavari Pushkarams are fast approaching, most of the works related to the river festival in the twin Godavari districts are yet to be launched. The frequent review meetings by Pushkarams special officer and collectors of East and West Godavari districts do not seem to have any effect on the officials.

East Godavari district collector H Arun Kumar and his West Godavari counterpart   Katamaneni Bhaskar on Tuesday reviewed the

status of works and expressed unhappiness  over functioning of the officials. Both the collectors directed the officials to devise an action plan to complete the works in 100 days.  In East Godavari district, only 37 works were started by the irrigation department  though administrative sanction was given to 125 of the total 145.

The Roads and Buildings department has launched just 25 of the 148 sanctioned works.

Similarly, APTransco has grounded seven out of the 22 sanctioned works. Disclosing this at a review meeting in Kakinada, Pushkarams special officer J Murali said any delay in the completion of works would not be tolerated.

“The officials should take the responsibility for quality of works,” he warned. Officials of various departments participated.
