236 Caught Driving Without Licences

VIJAYAWADA: With a view to reducing the number of deaths due to accidents, the transport department, along with the police department, launched a special drive and registered 450 cases in the district on Wednesday.

“As the number of deaths due to accidents is increasing, we have started a special drive during which 236 people were found driving without licences. These people are violating the traffic rules without wearing seat belts, helmets, overloaded auto-rickshaws and others. About 20 teams were halted at various checking points to curb the menace,” explained DTC S Venkateswara Rao.

The transport department is also conducting awareness programmes for drivers on safe driving.
