A ‘Touching’

VIJAYAWADA:  Krishna district collector Babu A touched the feet of T Radha, mother of accident victim Mankanta whose body organs had been donated to six needy patients, in a gesture of respect to her, during felicitation to women on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The collector wanted officials to take measures to reduce maternity and infant deaths in the district, as the district topped the charts with 17 per cent in maternity and infant death rate.

aa.JPGThe collector said officials should focus on providing medical help to pregnant women and infants at the primary health centres (PHCs) and the death rate should be reduced.

Expressing displeasure over the lethargic attitude of officials, he said that in the district, out of 15 maternity deaths in the district, almost 12 women died due to lack of proper medication.

a.JPGLater, he presented the ‘Best Women from the District Awards-2015’ to sub-collector S Naga Lakshmi, All India Radio director M Krishna Kumari,  District Mahila Samakyya president Sk Vahidunisa, District Mahila Samman president V Padma and Manikanta’s mother Radha.
