UPA, NDA Responsible for AP’s Misery: NGOs

Timely completion of Polavaram project demanded; MPs of all parties urged to bring pressure on Centre to fulfil its promises to reorganised state

VIJAYAWADA: AP Non-Gazetted Officers’ Association (NGOs) president P Ashok Babu on Sunday said employees would support chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu if he makes a sincere effort towards fulfilment of promises made for Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation of the state.

Speaking at a round table on ‘Development of AP after Bifurcation’, organised by the AP Journalists Forum here, the APNGO leader said the state, after bifurcation, was betrayed by the NDA government by not bothering to do anything.

He said both UPA and NDA governments should be blamed for the present state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh. If the Congress promised the moon to the state, the BJP had endorsed it. Now, the same BJP was keeping quiet, he said.

Referring to the reluctance of employees to shift to the new capital, Ashok Babu said there was one secion which was worried over the lack of facilities. If the government made necessary arrangements, the employees would surely shift, he said.

AP Secretariat Employees’ Association general secretary U Murali Krishna, AP NGOs’ Krishna district secretary A Vidya Sagar, farmer leaders Akkineni Bhavani Prasad, Chalasani Anjaneyulu, Visalandhra Mahasabha leader N Chakravarthi,  APSRTC Employees’ Union leader Y V Rao and Electricity Employees’ Union leader Satyanandam also spoke.

Most of the speakers felt that MPs of all parties should rise above political considerations and bring pressure on the Centre to secure the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, special category status for AP and liberal funding for construction of capital. The speakers also wanted Polavaram project be completed in time.

UPA, NDA.jpgRajahmundry: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre will construct the Indira Sagar Project (ISP), as assured earlier. As part of it, the government has sactioned `100 crore for the construction of office buildings, etc., for the ISP Authority. Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, BJP national leader Daggubati Purandeswari said the BJP government would stick to its word to fulfil the promises given to the State in the AP State reorganisation Act by the then UPA government. The problems faced by Tullur villages relationg to land acquistion will be taken to the notice of the state government. It is time for all parties to work together for the construction of capital and rejunevate the state. TDP and BJP will continue to work together, she said.
