VISAKHAPATNAM: They say, there are no permanent friends or foes in politics. Days after criticising each other openly in the media, ministers Ch Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao Sunday were best friends personified at the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by Telugu Desam Party at its office here, taking everyone by surprise.

The duo not only sat next to each other throughout the event but also shared a good laugh.

The bitter rivalry between Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao is an open secret where time-and-again they criticised each other openly in the media and during public meetings.

The infighting turned worse recently when Anakapalle MP Mutthamsetty Srinivasa Rao wrote a letter to district collector N Yuvaraj objecting the inauguration of some programmes in his Parliamentary constituency by Panchayat Raj minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, in his absence.

Later, both Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao criticised each other indirectly, picking at each other’s faults and position in the party.

However, both the ministers arrived at the TDP office in Waltair Uplands to participate in the International Women’s Day celebrations here Sunday.

While everyone present expected the sparks to fly between the two ministers, the duo took it easy and exchanged pleasantries. Taking it up a notch, they even sat next to each other on the dais and shared a good laugh with fellow TDP leaders.

Even when Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who was scheduled to attend another meeting excused himself, Ayyanna Patrudu physically intervened and requested him to stay for a couple of minutes for which the former obliged. In the presence of former Parliamentarian MVVS Murthy, the ministers even shared the cake brought in by the party workers.

While it undoubtedly is a welcome change, the party workers wondered how long the camaraderie would last. Interestingly, the duo was not seen together at the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by the district administration. Ganta Srinivasa Rao alone attended the event.
