CHITTOOR: Acting swiftly in the gang-rape and brutal murder case of the 19-year-old tribal girl a couple of days ago, Chittoor police here on Monday informed that they have arrested one accused and booked him under Nirbhaya Act.
District SP G Srinivas said that, the accused Payani Uday Kumar, a native of Punepalle village which is located adjacent to the girl’s village -- Kalavagunta.
On the day of incident, he met the girl, who was busy rearing her cattle in an agriculture field on the village outskirts of Kalavagunta. The accused went close to her with predefine intentions and misbehaved with her. The girl, on noticing the indifferent behaviour of Uday kumar, made a vain attempt to escape from the situation.
“The incident took place at 3 pm. As she refused to his proposal, Uday allegedly raped her. And thinking that she might inform to her parents he killed and threw the body into the nearby bushes,” the SP said. Uday Kumar was caught at his residence with the help sniffer dogs and clues team, who were pressed into action immediately after receiving a complaint by the girl’s parents. Uday Kumar booked was booked under the IPC section 376 of Nirbhaya Act and SC/ST Atrocities Act, he added.
