HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government’s Facebook page on disaster management figured in the report prepared by the social networking site on how to respond during disasters.
Citing the example of AP’s recent efforts put in during Hudhud cyclone to alert people through social networking sites, Facebook praised AP’s efforts to utilise the social networking sites and Internet to undertake relief and rehabilitation activities during natural calamities.
According to a press release issued by the CMO here on Tuesday, AP Disaster Management Facebook Page had been stated as one of the best examples for managing disaster responses through Facebook in emergency situations.
Facebook recently carried out a study titled ‘Prepare and Respond’ to analyse how individuals, communities and governments globally use Facebook to respond to emergencies and act accordingly.
“AP Disaster Management Page on Facebook was used as a platform to alert people before the cyclone, took grievances, complaints, concerns and informed them about relief material availability during Hudhud,” the release said.
The page was also used to post pictures of on-ground efforts of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the entire administration along with the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
With the help of the AP Disaster Management page, local Facebook communities were created through which relief efforts were monitored by various volunteer groups, the release state d. The report also stated how the online page engaged public and connected the community to help people safes.
