Denied Hall Ticket, Student Tries to End Life

VISAKHAPATNAM: An Intermediate student allegedly attempted to kill self as she was refused hall ticket by her college management for lack of minimum attendance at Vepadu village of Vallampudi mandal of the district Wednesday. She has been identified as P Dhanalakshmi, a resident of the same village.

According to Vallampudi SI V Balaji Rao, Dhanalakshmi is an Intermediate second year BiPC student of Government Junior College at Vepadu village. On Monday, the college management issued hall tickets to all her classmates but not to her as she did not have the required percentage of attendance. A depressed Dhanalakshmi consumed poison at home Wednesday, when her mother went out on some chore.

Finding her in an unconscious state upon her return, Dhanalakshmi’s mother rushed her to a government hospital at S Kota where she was administered first aid. She was later shifted to a hospital in Vizianagaram. Police said that her condition is stable.

According to the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) norms, the minimum attendance for a student to appear in the examination is 60 per cent.
