ANANTAPUR: A couple, who got married just three days ago, attempted suicide by slashing their throats, resulting in the death of the woman, while her husband was rushed to a hospital.
While relatives say both of them attempted suicide as their elders performed the marriage against their wish, police suspect the husband attempted suicide after killing his wife.
The victim, Vijayalakshmi of Tadipatri, got married to Phakirappa, a native of Kothapet village in Gooty mandal, three days ago and the duo were on their customary stay at the bride’s residence.
Wednesday morning, the couple were found lying in a pool of blood in their room with slashed throats. While Vijayalakshmi died due to heavy bleeding, Phakirappa was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared out of danger.
Police said the facts will come out only after taking Phakirappa into custody after he is discharged from hospital.
Police took Sriramulu, father of the bride, into custody for inquiry.
