40 Students Fall Ill After Taking Iron Tablets

SRIKAKULAM:  As many as 40 students of the government high school have been hospitalised after consuming Iron tablets at Bendi village of Vajrapukotturu mandal of the district Thursday. Their condition is said to be stable.

According to sources, the regional PHC doctors gave Iron tablets to Class VI and VII students of the school. By the time school closed, the students started complaining of stomach ache and some even threw up. Noticing their condition, school headmaster T Saradhi Naidu intimated doctors who rushed to the school and administered medical aid. As some of the students did not recover even after getting first aid, they were taken to the Palasa government hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.

Sources said that the tablets were meant for students of Class IX and X but were given to Class VI and VII students, leading to the incident. District Medical and Health officer S Hemanth Kumar along with his staff administered medicine to the students.
