Harassment Victim's Body Exhumed by Cops

VIZIANAGARAM:The police exhumed the body of 15-year-old dalit girl, from the graveyard at Malyada village of Nellimarla mandal in the district Thursday, and sent it for postmortem. She had allegedly committed suicide unable to bear sexual harassment.

The minor dalit girl who was studying class 10th hung herself from the ceiling fan on March 7 after the accused allegedly filmed her nude while she was bathing and used the video to blackmail her for sexual favours, along with two other men. The incident came to light Wednesday.

Reacting to the outrage swiftly, the police registered cases against three accused Mahesh, Ramesh and Ganesh Wednesday.

They also collected information from the villagers and are questioning the elders of the village who had reportedly held a ‘panchayati’ after the incident and directed the accused to pay `30,000 each to the parents of the victim for their ghastly act. The police are learnt to have been trying to ascertain if the accused have confessed to their crime during the panchayati.

The police have not yet arrested the accused due to lack of concrete evidence.

Meanwhile, the accused are said to be absconding. A police team has been formed to nab the trio.

Further investigation is on, a senior officer said.
