165 Bags of Ghutka, Khaini Seized from Godown in City

VISAKHAPATNAM : In a joint operation by the special branch and One Town police, 165 bags of ghutka and khaini, estimated to be worth about `21 lakh, were seized from a godown in Poorna Market area Monday morning. The owner of the godown imported the drugs from Odisha in two lorries Sunday night and stored them in the godown.

According to special branch police inspector B Ramana, on a tip-off the SB police and One Town police raided the godown owned by Lakshman Rao alias Naidu at the Poorna Market area. The police seized 165 bags of ghutka and khaini and Lakshmana Rao was taken into custody. “Lakshmana Rao gets the stuff from the districts of Odisha and stores them in the godown for distribution to pan shops and other agencies secretly in the city later,” said the police. The seized tobacco products would be sent to the food and safety laboratory for further action.
