ONGOLE: The authorities of the Irrigation department have been directed to release water into the right canal of the Rallapadu reservoir in Prakasam district to meet the drinking water requirement of villages in Linagasamudram mandal.
According to Sumathi, sarpanch of Chinna Pavani, a village in the mandal, district collector GSRKR Vijay Kumar issued the directions for the release of water when the issue was brought to his notice during the Prajavani programme on Monday after repeated representations to the irrigation and other district officials for the last two days did not yield anything.
Sumathi said that the collector felt that the water in the reservoir should be of use to people and not for mere storage and hence asked the officials to release the water.
