Family of Guntur Boy Welcomes SC Verdict

GUNTUR:C Narasimha Reddy, father of C Rahul Reddy, a law student from Arundalpet in Guntur who was arrested for posting a comment on Huhud cylcone in October last, termed the apex court verdict appropriate.

In the immediate aftermath of the cyclone that devastated Vizag, Rahul had posted on his FB page something like this — ‘I love Hudhud, Tappu Chesinavalla Bendu Teestundi  (it is hitting the wrong-doers hard) — allegedly hinting that people were being punished for not voting in favour of the YSRC.

CID police from Hyderabad had arrested him subsequently and released him the next day on bail. At that time, it created quite a stir and intensified the debate on freedom of expression.

“We are happy about the judgement and are waiting for the complete text. We are contemplating whether to file a quash petition in my son’s case after going through the verdict,” Narasimha Reddy told Express. Himself a lawyer, he has consulted several High Court lawyers on how to proceed further in his son’s case.
