KADAPA: There is a need to create a new district named after TDP founder and former chief minister NT Rama Rao comprising the new capital zone of Andhra Pradesh, deputy chief minister KE Krishnamurthy said here on Saturday.

The proposal was taken up with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and he might make an announcement to this effect on Sunday, the foundation day of TDP, he hoped.

Krishnamurthy, who participated in the Brahmotsavams of Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple at Vontimitta, addressed the media at the state guest house here. When Kadapa could be renamed as YSR district and earlier Prakasam district was named after former chief minister Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, why not the new capital region be a district named after NT Rama Rao, he asked.

The deputy chief minister, who also holds revenue portfolio, said the revenue department is functioning as a bridge between the government and farmers. For the capital, land was gathered through land pooling from the farmers and till now, the government has got 32,000 acres, he said, adding that another 700 acres are yet to be collected.

The capital city would be constructed with the support of Singapore, Japan and other countries, Krishnamurthy said.

While appreciating the hard work done by land surveyors in acquiring land for the capital, he said vacant posts of surveyor would be filled soon.

Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s dream is to create an ideal state with corruption-free administration, he said. The government will fulfil its assurances on the development of Rayalaseema and the chief minister is taking up Pattiseema project to solve the water crisis in the region, he said.

Minister Takes Part in Yagam

Tirupati: Health minister K Srinivas participated in the ongoing 16th Sri Magalakshmi Yagam on Krishnateja Institution campus here on Saturday. “I am happy to take part in the yagam on the auspicious day of Srirama Navami,” he said. Later, the minister left for Vontimitta to take part in Srirama Navami celebrations there.
