Conmen Selling 'Miracle' Idols Held

VISAKHAPATNAM: The city task force police Monday arrested two persons for duping people by selling fake images of goddesses for huge amounts claiming that they would bestow great fortune. The police recovered `36 lakh cash, two cars, nine fake gold biscuits and two cell phones from the accused J Suresh Kumar (45) from Dabagardens and B Jagadish (42), from S Kota in Vizianagaram district. Another five members of the gang are at large.

According to CTF ACP I Chittibabu, Suresh Kumar and Jagadish along with Nageswara Rao, Kondala Rao, Giri, Mohan and Krishna formed a gang and had been conning people by selling items of Gods or Goddesses by claiming that having such idols at home would bring the owners wealth and good things of life.

In the present case, they sold an ‘Astalakshmi bowl’ for a whopping `36 lakh to a person from Visalakshi Nagar, saying that it would bestow on him wealth, happiness and restore his lost fortune.

However, the duped person approached the police and complained about the gang. The police, acting on a tip-off, arrested Suresh and Jagadish and seized the booty. The arrested along with the seized property were handed over to Two Town police for further investigation. Teams have been deployed to nab the rest of the gang members.
